Lee Abbey London is looking for a Chaplain & Deputy Director – Head of Pastoral and Student Services.

This is a key residential leadership role in the Lee Abbey London Christian Community, with strategic oversight of spiritual, pastoral and missional matters.

The Lee Abbey London Christian Community seeks to serve students from around the world through hospitality, outreach and service. Students can be of any nationality or faith and they study at many different colleges in London. With over 60 years’ experience of serving students and “communicating Christ through relationships”, Lee Abbey London has a strong history of ministry and service but also faces new challenges as we look to renew our ministry and effectiveness for years to come, and particularly in light of the ongoing impact of the global Covid19 pandemic.

The Chaplain and Deputy Director should be a committed Christian, secure in and enthused about their faith in Jesus Christ. They should be someone of mature Christian faith and character, as well as an ordained minister in the Anglican or another recognised Christian church. Together with the other Lee Abbey Communities, Lee Abbey London is an “Acknowledged Community” by the Church of England. While Lee Abbey is Anglican in foundation, its culture and outlook is ecumenical and welcoming.

Working alongside and supporting the Director – Head of Operational and Commercial Services, the Chaplain and Deputy Director will have responsibility for:

  • Spiritual Leadership of the international and ecumenical Christian Community, including oversight of corporate worship, teaching and spiritual formation of Community members.
  • Leading Lee Abbey London’s Christian mission and outreach to international students.
  • Pastoral care of community members and students.

Lee Abbey London is part of a wider network under the umbrella of the Lee Abbey Movement, sharing Christ through relationships, nationally and globally.

This position requires full residential membership of the Christian community at Lee Abbey London. Accommodation on a full-board basis will be provided in a 1-bedroom flat at Lee Abbey London in Lexham Gardens. The post is:

  • Full-time
  • For an initial 5-year contract (fixed term)
  • With stipend & pension meeting the C of E national minimum requirements for clergy
  • With 30 days holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Based in Kensington, London.
