Lee Abbey London is in the process of improving and enhancing our accommodation. The plan for this much needed project is to upgrade the building in phases.
Our newly refurbished areas have been described by one student as “like going home” – this therefore needs to set the standard for the rest of the building. Like any home, our Victorian building needs constant and regular updating, but the essential improvements required are over and above our allocated budget. We urgently need to invest in our residence to reflect our core value of quality Christian hospitality through well-maintained, welcoming facilities that provide a home for students from around the world.
Phase 1 was completed in September 2016 and involved the installation, on the roof, of new, gas-fired boilers and pre-heated water from solar panels to improve our environmental impact and use of sustainable energy. It also created new ‘flagship’ rooms in the basement, completed to Hotel specification.
Phase 2 started in June 2018 in House 67, and was completed in September 2018. We were pleased to welcome the Bishop of Kensington, who opened this newly refurbished building.
Our fundraising target is £3.5m. The essential works will significantly improve our environmental impact, reduce ongoing costs, and upgrade the facilities in our residence.
